Choosing a level
How do the levels of mental health treatment differ?
The levels of mental health treatment differ mainly in how much of your day and week treatment takes.
Enhance provides inpatient care, PHP, IOP, outpatient therapy and virtual care, and admissions helps you choose where to start.
As you improve, you can step down to a lighter level without changing providers.
Inpatient and PHP
Inpatient mental health care, also called residential mental health treatment, means you live on site. In partial hospitalization (PHP), you spend the day in treatment and go home each evening. Both suit people who need more than a few sessions a week.
Outpatient and virtual
Intensive outpatient (IOP) runs a few hours a day, several days a week, and outpatient means regular therapy sessions after that. Virtual care offers PHP, IOP, and outpatient therapy by video, so you can take part from home.
If you are thinking about suicide or are in danger right now, call 988 or go to the nearest emergency room.

When to consider it
Signs you may need more than weekly therapy
You may need more than weekly therapy when symptoms start to affect your safety, your health, or your daily life.
- Work, school or life at home has become unmanageable in the last few days.
- A few therapy sessions a month are no longer keeping symptoms under control.
- You have stopped sleeping, eating or taking care of yourself.
- Someone close to you is frightened by the changes they see in you.
- You cannot stay safe on your own overnight.
- Drinking or drug use is making the symptoms worse.
Outpatient may be enough if
- You are safe at home overnight.
- You can keep a regular session time each week.
- The people at home can support the plan.
If there is immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. For a mental health crisis, call or text 988.

Common questions about mental health treatment
If your question is not answered here, call admissions at (714) 862-1907.
What levels of mental health care do you offer?
Enhance provides inpatient care, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), outpatient therapy and virtual care for mental health.
What is the difference between PHP and IOP?
PHP takes most of the day, and you sleep at home. IOP takes fewer hours across the week, so you can keep working or going to school. Admissions can tell you which one fits your situation.
How do I know which level I need?
You do not need to know before you call. Admissions asks about a normal day, whether you are safe at home and what your plan covers, then suggests a level.
Can I step down to a less intensive level with Enhance?
Yes. Enhance provides inpatient care, PHP, IOP, outpatient and virtual care, so you can step down without starting over somewhere new.
Do you treat addiction at the same time?
Yes. When a mental health condition and a substance use disorder happen together, both are treated at once, which is called dual diagnosis treatment. Admissions can tell you whether that applies to you.
What can I do if a family member refuses treatment?
You can call without putting their name on a form, and admissions will talk through what you are seeing. Admissions cannot force an adult into treatment. If your relative does start, family therapy can be part of their plan.
What happens during a mental health assessment?
A clinician asks about your symptoms, your safety, your health history and how your days are going, and uses that to shape your treatment plan.
Does insurance cover mental health treatment?
Enhance is in network with most commercial insurance plans. Admissions checks your benefits with the insurer and explains what you would pay before you start.
What does Joint Commission accreditation mean?
It means an independent body has reviewed our programs against national standards for the safety and quality of care. Enhance is a treatment center accredited for behavioral health care.
Is virtual care an option in Orange County?
Yes, if you can take part from a private place at home. Your clinician has to be licensed where you live, and admissions confirms that on the call.
Talk with admissions about a level of care
One call tells you which level fits and what your plan covers. Nothing starts until you agree.
