Which level of addiction treatment comes first?
Many people start with detox, but the right first level depends on withdrawal, your home, and how much structure you need.
Detox and inpatient
Medically supervised detox helps you through withdrawal, with medication to ease symptoms when you need it. Inpatient care means you live on site, away from the places where you used.
Outpatient and virtual
Partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and outpatient care let you sleep at home. Virtual addiction treatment is therapy by video once any withdrawal has been managed.
Admissions can tell you in one call whether detox should come first and which level to start in.

On your first call, admissions asks about a few situations that help decide which level of care fits you.
- You get shaky, sweaty or cannot keep food down when you stop.
- You cannot stay away from use while you are living at home.
- Work or family needs you to be there in person most days.
- You have a mental health condition alongside the drinking or drug use.
- You tried outpatient treatment before and returned to use.
- Getting to in-person sessions every week would be hard for you.
Outpatient may fit if
- Withdrawal is over, or it was never severe.
- You can stay away from use while living at home.
- You can keep a regular schedule of sessions.

What you pay depends on your deductible, your copay and the level your insurer approves. Admissions checks your benefits with the insurer and tells you the figures before you decide anything.

Does insurance pay for rehab?
Many commercial plans cover some addiction treatment, and the amount depends on the plan. Admissions checks your benefits with the insurer before you decide. A verification is not a promise of coverage.
Do I need detox before inpatient care?
If stopping makes you physically sick, detox comes first, and Enhance provides it. If withdrawal is not a medical concern, admissions may start you in inpatient care, PHP or outpatient. Admissions decides that after talking with you, not from a form.
What is the difference between PHP and IOP for addiction?
PHP takes most of the day, and you go home at night. IOP takes part of the week, so you can keep working. Admissions can tell you which one fits your situation.
Can virtual treatment replace coming in?
Virtual care can work once you are medically stable and can stay away from use at home. It is not the right first step if you are in withdrawal or cannot stay safe at home.
What happens after rehab?
Most people step down to a lower level rather than leaving care. People leaving inpatient care often move to PHP or IOP, and supported living is an option if home is not a sober place yet.
Can my family be involved?
Yes. Family therapy is part of treatment when you want them included. They can also call admissions on their own if they are the ones looking for help.
